Since 1969, two generations of the Dunbabin family have called Mayfield home, farming sheep for fine wool on Tasmania’s East Coast.
In 2010, following years of drought, Bruce Dunbabin looked to diversify the family farming operation and planted six hectares of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. For several years, Mayfield’s fruit was grown for premium Australian sparkling wine before Bruce took the next step - creating wines under the Mayfield Estate name.
Today, the vineyard has grown to nine hectares, with Pinot Gris and Shiraz joining the original Chardonnay and Pinot Noir plantings. Mayfield remains first and foremost a working farm, with around 5,000 sheep sharing the property with the vineyard.
Completed in 2022, our Cellar Door was designed to make the most of Mayfield’s extraordinary position overlooking Great Oyster Bay. From the vineyard, the view stretches across the water towards Schouten Passage and the Freycinet Peninsula, north towards Dolphin Sands and south towards Maria Island and the Tasman Sea.
